Anklets (Foot chain)

Anklets

The Indian anklet (Hindi: Payal) is one of the most classical Indian pieces of jewellery and is traditionally made of Sterling silver. Nowadays they are available in many different styles, sizes and colours. Typical as well are the small balls at the clasp wich ring softly while walking.
To put on the anklet, the S-shaped wire of the fastener is bend up and closed again. This may seem cumbersome, but since Indian women wear their anklets all the time, so they almost never take them off, this type of closure makes sense.

Traditionally two similar anklets are worn on both feet. They are considered as very aesthetic and are therefore often a subject in Indian songs as well.
